"I popped into the newsagent and there on the front page of our local daily newspaper was a picture of Oscar with the caption 'Meet the world's first bionic cat', with the full story appearing inside headed up, 'Puss in bionic boots'. I bought ten copies. The man in the shop looked at me quizzically. 'That's my cat!'"
When Kate Allan's beloved black cat, Oscar, is found lying severely injured in a field near their Jersey home, she is sure the accident-prone boy has met his end. With both hind legs severed by a combine harvester, Oscar's life hangs in the balance; luckily for him, his vet knows Noel Fitzpatrick, star of BBC One's "The Bionic Vet". Noel agrees to try pioneering surgery on Oscar to replace his legs with specially created prosthetics. Against all odds, Oscar comes back from the brink to become the world's very first bionic cat, and a feline celebrity.
Oscar The Bionic Cat eBook Kate Allan
The Book "Oscar the Bionic Cat" is fascinating in it's detail. The prose is beautiful, and the setting beautifully described.Depending on your feelings about Prosthesis for cats, you will either enjoy it, or if feel that the treatment Oscar went through was excessive, you won't.
The details of the prosthetic for the young cat's back legs is very interesting, and Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick is by all accounts a wonderful vet.
The cat, Oscar, belonged to Kate Allan, the writer of this book. He went through a terrible accident, and as a result lost his back legs. The book, then is the account of the various operations Oscar had to go through to have prosthetic legs fitted. At times I felt very sorry for the cat, as it had to endure one operation after another, however he eventually got his full mobility back with two prosthetic legs ........thanks to both his owner, the Vet and the wonderful staff at Dr. Noel's hospital.

Oscar The Bionic Cat eBook Kate Allan Reviews
boring
A good read for cat lovers.
Was an amazing story about a kitty with an incredible will to live, despite his tendency to get in life threatening accidents. Does also illustrate that most cats should be INSIDE cats !!!
A remarkable story about a remarkable cat and vet. Absolutely loved it.
Oscar is a cat who sees things positively no matter what happens. He has great people and doctors to help him.
Well written story of an accident-prone cat who goes through amazing surgeries and recovery. What's sad is that so much of his trauma could have been prevented, leaving pet lovers to struggle with the authors' insistence that cats should be able to roam freely indoors and outdoors, without supervision, even in a case that so clearly shows why that stance is so dangerous. Nonetheless, the resilience of this cat is simply amazing and makes the book worth reading.
It is truly an inspiring book. The people who owned Oscar the cat, truly understood what ramifications were at hand by letting the cat outside. However, when they found him injured, they were given options of how to proceed and they chose to give him another chance to live with the family, by not choosing to euthanize him, but to follow through with an entirely experimental procedure in bionic limb surgery. Even though they knew that it would be expensive and that he would be required to be away from then for years, the unconditional love was there on both parts. I applaud them wholeheartedly. There love for each other and the cats will to live is amazing and tear jerking at times, but they don't really give up on the other. Keep your kleenex ready, it will make you cry.
